Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess:

Mark Flint
Hi all, been seeing quite a bit of this error recently, and I wondered if anyone had seen this before?
It looks like e either the user, or software, is trying to connect to the admin share, but could also just
be trying to walk the share tree ,maybe?  Full error reads:-

Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess: Received too many connection requests to the same share from one session: clientIP:port

share "ipc$", user "

removed IP and userid.

Open a case with NetApp.

There is a KB article that they can easily look up that will help.
They need to tsearch for "Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess: Received too many connection requests" and it shoudl come up for them.

Appears to be an internal KB, so I do not feel comfortable sharing.

Exactly your error.

RE: Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess:

Parisi, Justin
In reply to this post by Mark Flint

In ONTAP, you can see descriptions of errors with the “event route show” command.

This is the output for this particular message:

*> event route show -message-name Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess –instance

                                     Message Name: Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess

                                         Severity: ERROR

Corrective Action: Inspect the application using the connection and also monitor the other applications on the client. The client might be operating incorrectly due to a faulty application running on it. Rebooting the client might also be helpful. In some cases, clients are operating as expected but require a higher threshold, which you can set using (privilege: advanced) "cifs option modify -max-same-tree-connect-per-session" command.

Description: This message occurs when the number of connections to the same share allowed per session is exceeded. This request and any further requests to establish another connection to that share are denied until some connections to the share are released. This typically indicates abnormal client behavior.

                               Supports SNMP trap: false

                                     Destinations: -

Number of Drops Between Transmissions: 0

Dropping Interval (Seconds) Between Transmissions: 0

Essentially, treat this issue like classic 7mode maxmpx issues. You can try increasing the option mentioned in the corrective action.

RE: Nblade.cifsSameTreePerSess:

Parisi, Justin
In reply to this post by Tim McCarthy

As for the KB, it mentions the same stuff in the event route show output, so it’s ok to share here.

Basically, increase your max-tree-connect to 4096.

vserver cifs options modify -vserver exampleSVM -max-same-tree-connect-per-session 4096
